Superintendent: Case of student-to-student transmission confirmed in schools

by | Mar 2, 2021 | Education, Featured: Education

Superintendent Carol Cavanaugh sent an email to schools families Tuesday indicating that late last week the district had its first confirmed case (by the Hopkinton Health Department and Massachusetts Department of Public Health) of student-to-student transmission of the COVID-19 virus in the schools.

There also have been three confirmed cases of adult-to-adult transmission, “two of which took place when masks were not being worn,” Cavanaugh wrote.

Cavanaugh wrote that over a 5 1/2-month period, just under 2.5 percent of Hopkinton students have tested positive. In six months, just under 6 percent of staff have tested positive.

The total number of individuals who have tested positive includes 29 staff members (includes teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, cafe workers, custodians, etc.), 88 students who are doing in-person learning, and 10 remote students.

Broken down by school:

Hopkinton High School has had four staff members test positive, along with 23 students who are doing in-person learning, and two remote students.

Hopkinton Middle School has had six staff members test positive, along with 30 students who are doing in-person learning, and three remote students.

Hopkins School has had four staff members test positive, along with eight students who are doing in-person learning, and two remote students.

Elmwood School has had six staff members test positive, along with 11 students who are doing in-person learning, and two remote students.

Marathon School has had six staff members test positive, along with 16 students who are doing in-person learning, and one remote student.
