The Hopkinton Police Department confirmed in an email Friday morning that Sgt. Tim Brennan has been placed on paid administrative leave.
Neither Police Chief Joseph Bennett nor Town Manager Norman Khumalo would provide further details. Bennett, contacted earlier in the week, initially responded that “the town does not comment on most personnel matters.” However, apparently after being contacted by other media outlets, he confirmed the leave.
Brennan has been on the force since 2005. He was promoted to sergeant in 2014 after serving as detective from 2008-14 and school resource officer from 2005-08.
Brennan is the second HPD employee to be placed on administrative leave in the past year. Former Deputy Chief John Porter was placed on leave last August, and earlier this month he was arraigned on charges of child rape for allegedly assaulting a Hopkinton High School student while he was working as the town’s school resource officer in 2004 and 2005.
Time to drug test cops
What an absolute shame to see this happen to Tim. Anyone who knows him knows he is the most personable, ethically pure and wonderful person anyone can call a friend. It’s unfortunate to see that he’s out right now but please, please please do not mix him into the mix of any other accusations of the ex deputy chief. I am confident that whatever the issue is will be investigated and he will be back to work sooner than later. He’s a great man, a great cop and a great sergeant. It’s terrible that he and his family have to go through this.
Talk about a comment not aging well. Now that it has come out that he failed to report the rape of this student by the deputy police chief you probably should delete this comment. How many more students were raped because of his inactions? Always playing to the crowd Mr. Tedstone…
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH BRENDEN . Tim Brenan is a Top shelf Officer Husband , Father, Friend. I’m also confident that he will be back to work once all the facts are in .
Frank , judging by your comments, you don’t know Tim very well.
Let’s wait for facts before making a judgement
Tim is an outstanding police officer, I was in high school when he was the resource officer and he always wanted what was in the best interest for the students. It’s a shame that his name is being slandered among the recent accusations against Officer Porter. Do better and get facts before going on a witch hunt.
We have no facts other than the officer is placed on leave. Most recently, that action resulted in a months later arrest for a heinous crime. We shouldn’t assume the worst, but without any other explanation it’s not a reach to assume it’s not good.
