HPD, HFD respond to ‘2-car crash with injuries’ on Cedar Street Sunday afternoon

The Hopkinton Police Department and Fire Department responded to what a police spokesperson described as a “two-car crash with injuries” Sunday afternoon near Legacy Farms North, prompting a brief road closure.

HPD Lt. Scott van Raalten stated in an email Monday morning to the Independent that officers responded to a report of a “two-car crash with injuries on Cedar Street by Legacy Farms North.” The police report issued Monday morning confirmed that five officers responded after multiple people called 911 to report the incident and possible injuries.

“Both vehicles had heavy damage when [police] arrived and were in the middle of the roadway,” according to van Raalten. “The officers at the scene closed Cedar Street at Legacy Farms North and the Southboro town line with the assistance of the Southboro Police. The roadway was closed for approximately 30 minutes.”

Van Raalten stated that the crash is currently under investigation, but he was able to share some details.

“At this time, it appears that a vehicle was traveling south on Cedar Street when the driver got distracted, swerved off the roadway, overcorrected, and entered the northbound travel lane, striking a vehicle traveling north,” he explained. “The driver and passenger of the northbound vehicle were transported to UMass [Medical Center] in Worcester, while the driver of the southbound vehicle had minor injuries and declined medical treatment.”

Two tow trucks were requested by HPD to remove the vehicles.
