While the merits of voter ID laws are debated, 36 states have laws on the books requiring some form of identification to vote, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. In most cases, Massachusetts voters do not need to show an ID when voting. Given recent interest in election integrity, does it make sense for all United States citizens to show some form of identification at the polls?

If the state wants folks to show ID then the state should make sure all registered voters have an ID. For some folks going to the RMV to get a photo ID is a poll tax. Elderly folks. Disabled folks. Folks who would have to take time off from work and lose their hourly salary.
The state could validate all registered voters who don’t have an ID, hire a bunch of young adults for the summer and have them go around and take photos of those folks and hand them their photo ID on the spot.
The state not willing to do this is voter suppression and a poll tax.
