Water Department warns of water discoloration due to Legacy Farms fire

by | Jan 9, 2025 | Featured: News, News, Police & Fire

Hopkinton Water-Sewer manager Eric Carty announced that the use of fire hydrants Thursday night because of a fire in Legacy Farms South may cause discoloration in residents’ water.

According to the Water Department’s website, while some recent rain has helped with water recharge, groundwater levels still are low. Town wells and hydrants have to pull further out in the aquifers as result, which can lead to intermittent discoloration.

Residents who experience discoloration can resolve the issue by flushing the cold water pipes in their homes. Doing so allows trapped sediments to be released.

Discolored water is safe to drink, but the town does not recommend using it for washing laundry.

For more information, visit the Water Department’s webpage or call 508-497-9765.

Editor’s note: We will have details on the fire when more information is available.
