Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a video or two to brighten your morning.
With the Black Lives Matter movement taking center stage, many communities are taking a closer look at their histories and the people for whom statues have been erected and places have been named. A look at Hopkinton’s past reveals that slavery was accepted in town prior to the Civil War. The man for whom the town was named, Edward Hopkins, was a slaveowner as well.
Town Manager Norman Khumalo offered an update on the Main Street Corridor Project, indicating that the bid process is underway and tentatively expected to be reviewed on Aug. 11. Construction is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2021.
The town’s latest COVID-19 update has information on mental health resources as well as free testing sites.
The Hopkinton Center for the Arts’ Art @ A Distance week-long fundraiser continues tonight with an online concert by the Treblemakers.
