Hopkinton Today: Wednesday, Aug. 19

by | Aug 19, 2020 | Hopkinton Today, Z-Lead Image Front Page

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a video or two to brighten your morning.

Muriel Kramer gave an impassioned defense of her work with the Massachusetts Bail Fund following calls last night for her resignation from the Planning Board. The fund has been criticized recently for freeing violent criminals, including a convicted sex offender who was arrested for rape while out on bail.

Town Meeting has been rescheduled again. It now is slated to be held the morning of Saturday, Sept. 12, under a tent outside Hopkinton High School, with the rain date/continuation date the following day.

The Planning Board voted to keep all seven of its articles, including the oft-discussed solar map, on the warrant for Town Meeting, despite a request from the Select Board for non-essential articles to be removed.

Superintendent Carol Cavanaugh, appearing on HCAM’s Hopkinton Hangout Hour yesterday, said Hopkinton schools are unlikely to switch to a fully in-person model anytime soon.

A proposed alternate Boston Marathon for Hopkinton charity runners next month will not take place, as organizers ran into too many roadblocks to pull it off.

The School Committee will hold office hours tonight (7). The Parks & Rec Commission meets tonight (7).
