HHS soccer, field hockey, cross country open modified seasons this weekend

by | Oct 8, 2020 | Sports, Z-Lead Image Front Page

Hopkinton High School’s fall sports teams — aside from golf, which already is off to a 3-0 start — open the season this weekend with contests against Medway.

The sports will play with modified rules designed to limit contact, and only play against a “pod” of five other Tri-Valley League teams: Ashland, Holliston, Medway, Bellingham and Norton.

One change from the original plan — which had called for no spectators — is that two fans per player will be allowed to watch home games live. HCAM will livestream the home games for everyone else to watch.

The sports debuting this weekend are soccer, field hockey and cross country. Football, volleyball, cheer and unified basketball will compete in a new fourth season slated to run from late February to late April.

Soccer and field hockey will have games every Saturday and Sunday (home-and-home series against the same TVL opponent). Cross country will race on Saturdays — both the boys and girls teams race at Medway this Saturday morning.

The home schedule for this weekend (all games to be livestreamed by HCAM) is:

Saturday
9 a.m., JV field hockey vs. Medway
11 a.m., Varsity field hockey vs. Medway
1:30 p.m., Varsity girls soccer vs. Medway
3:30 p.m., JV girls soccer vs. Medway

Sunday
2 p.m., JV boys soccer vs. Medway
4 p.m., Varsity boys soccer vs. Medway
