Farrell assists Team USA in win over Canada

by | Feb 12, 2022 | Sports

Hopkinton’s Sean Farrell continued his hot start in Beijing on Saturday, recording an assist to help the U.S. men’s hockey team to a 4-2 victory over Canada in an Olympic preliminary-round game.

With 1:16 remaining in the first period of a 1-1 game, Farrell grabbed a loose puck and made a pass to linemate Ben Meyers, who converted to put the Americans ahead for good. The team traded goals in the second period, and Team USA got some insurance with 6:13 left in the third.

It marked the first victory for the U.S. program over Canada in the Olympics since 2010.

The U.S. squad, now 2-0 and in first place in Group A, plays Germany on Sunday in its final preliminary-round game.
