Farrell, Team USA top Germany to earn spot in Olympic quarterfinals

by | Feb 13, 2022 |

The U.S. men’s hockey team won its third straight game at the Beijing Olympics on Sunday, picking up a 3-2 victory over Germany.

Hopkinton’s Sean Farrell, who began the day as the leading scorer in the Olympics with three goals and three assists, did not record a point Sunday but made some key plays in the win.

After allowing a goal two minutes into the first period, the Americans scored three straight — one in each period. Germany scored with 2:29 left in the game to make things interesting but could not get the equalizer.

With the victory, Team USA clinched first place in its group and earned a spot in Wednesday’s quarterfinal round.
