HHS Sports Roundup: Girls tennis, boys tennis, boys VB teams fall

The Hopkinton High School girls tennis team dropped a 3-2 decision at home to 17th-seeded Newton North on Thursday in the first round of the Division 1 state tournament.

Hopkinton’s points came from senior May Chen at second singles (6-4, 7-6) and the doubles team of sophomores Aarushi Sheth and Shruti Musani (1-6, 6-1, 6-4). The first doubles team of Swiya Patel and Eva Lacoche lost a close match, just their second loss of the season.

“I’m incredibly proud of how our team battled until the end today, particularly our singles players,” coach Lyn Calkins stated. “We will learn from this loss and take those lessons into next season.”

The 16th-seeded Hillers end their campaign with a record of 15-4. …

The HHS boys tennis team traveled to ninth-seeded Concord-Carlisle for a first-round match and dropped a 5-0 decision. The 24th-seeded Hillers end their season at 14-4. …

The HHS boys volleyball team visited 31st-seeded Woburn for their first-ever tournament appearance and fell, 3-2, in the preliminary round. The 34-seeded Hillers finish their season with a record of 12-7.
