Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a video or two to brighten your morning.
Hopkinton’s COVID-19 update for Wednesday shows 14 active cases of the virus, with 88 recoveries and 13 deaths. There’s an update on Sandy Beach, which is available for residents to access but won’t be staffed with lifeguards for another month.
The Conservation Committee voted Tuesday not to allow the use of chemical herbicides in Lake Maspenock this year to combat invasive weed growth. The other primary option, a lake drawdown, can’t be performed due to the negative effect it could have on a resident’s well, but Select Board vice chair John Coutinho said the town has been negotiating to purchase the resident’s property, located on an island, so that drawdowns would be possible going forward.
With the building closed due to the pandemic, the Senior Center has shifted its focus to providing online activities — exercise classes, educational courses and social gatherings — and the programs have been well-received.
