Good morning, Hopkinton!
For those new to the site, this post is a daily update we call Hopkinton Today. We’ll have a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights for the coming day and a video or two to brighten your day.
The town yesterday gave an update on the upcoming Annual Town Meeting and election. As previously reported by the Independent, it was decided at the March 17 Select Board meeting to push back Annual Town Meeting to June 22. With restrictions on when the ensuing town election can be held, town officials would first need to get state approval if it is held after June 30. The Select Board will discuss the election situation at its next meeting on April 7.
The Hopkinton Police announced that its annual Fishing Derby has been canceled.
Assuming the schools return to live learning on May 4, extracurricular activities will have to be rescheduled, if they are not canceled. Yesterday the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association board of directors voted unanimously to start tryouts and practices for spring sports teams the same day high school students return. The first games would played on May 11, and following a shortened season (between 8-12 games), there would be a postseason that runs until June 27.
Viral video of the day: Police in Andorra, Spain, have been dancing to the song “Baby Shark” to entertain kids during the coronavirus lockdown there.
For the rest of us, here’s the Spinners performing “Rubberband Man” in 1976. Enjoy.
