Three vehicles were involved in a crash on West Main Street on Thursday night, prompting the Hopkinton Fire Department to extricate passengers from two cars, according to local emergency personnel.

The incident occurred at 8:24 p.m., according to the police log released Friday morning. Four officers responded to a call reporting a multi-car accident with entrapment. Damage to the guard rail on eastbound side was noted.

“The vehicles involved in the accident on West Main Street were a Toyota RAV4, a Ford Ranger, and a Toyota Avalon,” stated HPD Lt. Aaron O’Neil in an email to the Independent on Friday afternoon. “The operator of the RAV4 was charged with a marked lanes violation, unsafe operation of a motor vehicle, and reckless operation. The crash occurred when the operator of the RAV4 attempted to pass another vehicle.”

O’Neil confirmed that alcohol use was not a factor in the accident.

The police log stated that the individuals involved refused medical treatment.

Pictures shared in a Facebook post from the Hopkinton Firefighters Local 3772 union showed that a white Ford Ranger truck and a gray Toyota Avalon sedan appeared to collide almost head-on. Both vehicles sustained significant damage.

The post also noted that it was HFD’s “13th call of the day.”

“The Facebook post made it sound a lot worse than it actually was,” explained Hopkinton Fire Chief Gary Daugherty in a phone interview with the Independent on Friday afternoon. “Basically, the truck was stuck in the car door, and the car was pinned to the guard rail.”

He noted that firefighters “helped get the passengers out of both vehicles safely,” and that no one was injured. They also helped clean up fuel spillage.

Officers from the Milford and Upton police departments assisted in directing traffic. Two tow trucks towed away two vehicles from the scene.

This is the second motor vehicle accident in town this week during which a person was trapped in a vehicle after a crash. The HFD on Tuesday morning worked with the Westborough Fire Department to extricate an injured passenger from a truck involved in a crash on Interstate 495 southbound at the mile 54 marker near West Main Street.
