Rijhsinghani hired as assistant town accountant

Town Manager Norman Khumalo announced this week that Poonam Rijhsinghani has been hired as the as the town’s new assistant town accountant.

Rijhsinghani comes to Hopkinton from H&R Block Tax Services, where she served as a senior tax analyst since 2000. She worked with clients to prepare and review individual, small business, trust and multi-state tax returns. Rijhsinghani holds bachelor’s degrees in accountancy and in law.

As assistant town accountant, Rijhsinghani’s role is to support the daily municipal accounting, administrative and technical operations of the Accounting Department. She assists with planning, directing, coordinating and maintaining financial records, as well as in preparing financial and budgetary reports for the town. Rijhsinghani also aids in the audit and review of all accounts payable requests by town departments to ensure they are in compliance with Massachusetts General Laws and contracts entered into by the town.

“The assistant town accountant role is critical to ensuring financial responsibility and compliance for the town, and provides valuable support to town departments in their accounting and financial reporting,” Khumalo said. “Poonam brings notable experience in tax preparation and research, and is a valuable addition to our Accounting, Procurement and Grants Department.”
