The Hopkinton School Committee announced Thursday that is seeking community input to narrow the list of names for the new elementary school via a survey.
Since the district issued a press release in January requesting suggestions for potential names, nearly 50 possibilities were received. These suggestions have been grouped into several categories, including nature, the Boston Marathon, learning concepts and names of influential people and groups, Some entries include explanations that can be accessed here.
The School Committee initiated the naming process in accordance with Policy FF-Naming of Facilities or Events, which was amended in January. In accordance with the policy, Superintendent Carol Cavanaugh will make a recommendation to the School Committee. The ultimate decision for the naming of the new school lies with the School Committee.
The survey requests that respondents choose no more than two names in each category. This survey is being used to inform the decision-making process.
“The superintendent and the School Committee value the community’s thoughtful contributions to the process,” according to a press release.
This survey will remain open for one week.
The new school will be situated next to the Marathon Elementary School on Hayden Rowe Street and house Grades 2-4. It will replace the Elmwood Elementary School.
