Hopkinton Public Schools announced on Sunday that it will be “extending February break by one more day” on Monday as a blizzard moves in Sunday night through Monday afternoon.
The school district posted on its Facebook page Sunday afternoon that school is cancelled for Monday. All after-school activities have been cancelled as well.
“Our facilities team and [Department of Public Works] partners will be working throughout the storm, clearing parking lots, walkways and roadways,” the post states. “In the meantime, please stay safe, stay warm and enjoy the extra day with family.”
The National Weather Service put a blizzard warning into effect at 4 p.m. on Sunday. It is expected to last until 7 p.m. Tuesday. Snow accumulation is anticipated between 12-22 inches with winds gusting as high as 55 miles per hour. Hazardous travel conditions are expected, and strong winds could cause tree damage.
Gov. Maura Healey declared a state of emergency Sunday afternoon and has activated the National Guard to support storm response operations.
All Hopkinton town offices, including the library and the Senior Center, will be closed on Monday as well.
