Hopkinton’s Mena Youssif, who graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute last month with a degree in civil engineering and completed a capstone project titled “Seismic Design of Cross-Laminated Timber,” was awarded WPI’s Crimson and Gray Award during the school’s annual Student Recognition Awards ceremony. This award recognizes students who demonstrate outstanding leadership abilities within the WPI community and acknowledge the significant contributions they have made to improve the quality of student life at the university. Other Hopkinton residents earning degrees at WPI were Yasutora Ito (mathematical sciences major who completed a capstone project titled “Computational Optimization Framework for Personal Scheduling”), Brandon Belmonte (mechanical engineering), Hemankit Vallurupalli (data science) and Treavor Weeden (who received a B.S./M.S. degree in mechanical engineering and completed a capstone project titled “FlareBot: Unmanned Firefighting Reconassaince Robot”).
Also at WPI, all undergraduates are required to complete a research-driven, professional-level project that applies science and technology to addresses an important societal need or issue.
