Senior Snippets, June 3 edition

The Hopkinton Senior Center is open Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and Fridays from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. For a more extensive listing of programs and services, including lunch program menus, as well as a newsletter, check hopkintonseniorcenter.com. Subject to Citizen: A Brief History of a Very Big Idea
Tuesdays in June, 10-11:30 a.m.
As the nation recalls the events of 1776, this prerecorded program explores the historical moments that led people born as subjects to the king to consider instead the ideas of citizenship. It will delve into the ways early Americans embraced radical ideas such as self-governance, equal justice under the law, the public good, education for all, natural and civil rights and due process.

Book Club
Wednesday, June 3, 10:30 a.m.
One of life’s pleasures is a good book. Another is having the time to read it. At this monthly meeting, participants can relax and bring refreshments, all while enjoying book reviews and socializing. This month’s book is “Cascade” by Maryanne O’Hara.

Our Time Memory Cafe at the Senior Center
Thursday, June 4, 1 p.m.
This is a welcoming gathering for those experiencing forgetfulness or mild cognitive impairment, or living with dementia, and their care partner, family and friends. The cafe is a place to socialize, share experiences and form friendships. This month’s activity will be decorating cookies. This is a joint venture between Senior Services and the Hopkinton Public Library. For more information, call the Senior Center.

Golden Age Indian Dance Program
Monday, June 8, 1 p.m.
This is a dance-based interactive event for seniors, taking the audience on a journey to India through vibrant dance and storytelling in bright costumes. The 45-minute presentation will be followed by an interactive movement session where the participants will use stimulating hand gestures. This program is supported by several local cultural councils.

Discover Your Best Colors: Group Color Analysis with Wardrobe Angels
Monday, June 8, 1-3 p.m. or Monday, June 15, 1-3 p.m.
Local stylist Carolyn Fitzpatrick of Wardrobe Angels will run a group experience centered around seasonal color analysis. The presentation will dive into warm versus cool tones and include time for discussion. Each participant will receive personalized draping to determine their most flattering seasonal palette, along with their best neutrals and ideal jewelry tones. Registration is required, as only six spots per session are available. The program is $25 per person.

Sound Bath
Wednesday, June 10, 2:15 p.m.
In this magical and relaxing hour, Crystal Lee will lead participants in experiencing the sound waves from crystal bowls. They are meant to synchronize brain wave frequencies, fostering deep relaxation and a tranquil mind, which may ease anxiety, manage stress and support a balanced mood. Attendees should bring a yoga mat, pillow and blanket, and may sit or lie down for this session. Advance registration is required, as space is limited.

History of Dolls
Thursday, June 18, 1 p.m.
Janice McIntyre of Jenny Baby’s Doll Hospital will give a presentation on the history of dolls from the mid 1800s through the 1960s. The program will discuss the way dolls were made and how that process changes over time, with antique dolls on display. Guests are welcome to bring their own special dolls to share with everyone following the presentation.
