Pottery for Beginners
Tuesdays, 12:30-2:30 p.m.
This nine-week course, designed for beginners, teaches essential ceramics skills. Participants will have the opportunity to master fundamental hand-building techniques including pinching, coiling and slab construction. The instructor will provide step-by-step guidance. Registration is required, as space is limited. The full session is $100. Those who did not make it into this class, which began in August, will have opportunities to sign up again in the winter and spring. The next pottery workshop will run Oct. 27-Dec.15.
WALKtober
This program encourages participants to walk for at least 15 minutes each day in October. Tracking calendars are available at the front desk of the Senior Center. All participants will be entered into a prize drawing and are invited to celebrate everyone’s accomplishments together at the end of the month.
Our Time Memory Cafe at the Senior Center
Thursday, Oct. 1, 1 p.m.
This is a welcoming gathering for those experiencing forgetfulness or mild cognitive impairment, or living with dementia, and their care partner, family and friends. The cafe is a place to socialize, share experiences and form friendships. This month’s activity is decorating cookies. This is a joint venture between Senior Services and the Hopkinton Public Library. For more information, call the Senior Center.
Frisbee Dogs
Monday, Oct. 5, 2 p.m.
Mike and his team of world-record-holding and K-9 Frisbee finalist dogs will put on a performance at Reed Park (off Wood Street) featuring stunts and some audience participation. A shuttle will be available to take participants from the Woodville Rod & Gun Club to Reed Park starting at 1 p.m. Guests are asked to call the Senior Center to add their name to the shuttle list. Participants must bring their own lawn chairs or blankets, and some concessions will be provided. Attendees are asked to leave their own pets at home.
Book Club
Wednesday, Oct. 7, 10:30 a.m.
One of life’s pleasures is a good book. Another is having the time to read it. At this monthly meeting, participants can relax and bring refreshments, all while enjoying book reviews and socializing. This month’s book is “Starry Messenger: Cosmic Perspectives on Civilization” by Neil deGrasse Tyson.
