Catherine Chow and Aila Chase combined for two first-half goals to lead the Hopkinton High School girls soccer team to a 4-1 victory over visiting Weymouth on Tuesday in the Division 1 state tournament’s Round of 32.

The 14th-seeded Hillers (13-2-2) advance to play the winner of Wednesday’s game between third-seeded Wellesley and 35th-seeded Haverhill.

Just past the midpoint of the first half, Nina Clement stole the ball from a Weymouth player in Hillers territory. Clement guided the ball to Chow, who spotted Chase racing up the middle of the field and sent her on her way with a perfect 40-yard lead pass. With a defender hugging her left side and the goalie charging at her, Chase smacked a right-foot shot to the left corner of the goal as she fell to the turf, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Sixteen minutes later, Chow took control at midfield and again sent Chase headed toward goal, with a defender in pursuit but a couple of yards behind her. At the top of the box, Chase kicked the ball with her right foot to her left, away from a charging goalie. She then tracked down the ball as it headed to the side of the goal and kicked it into the open net with 4:41 remaining in the half.

Twelve minutes into the second half, Natalie Prisco sent a pass from left midfield across to the right side, in front of the box. Her older sister, Emma Prisco, raced up and one-touched a looper that went over the goalie’s head and just under the crossbar for a 3-0 lead.

Hopkinton scored its final goal with 10:20 remaining. Izzy Dunne tracked down a long pass, outmaneuvered two defenders and delivered a left-footed shot that deflected off the goalie and found its way to the back of the net.

Weymouth ended Hopkinton’s shutout bid with a goal off a header in the final minutes.

Boys soccer falls to Framingham

The HHS boys soccer team saw its season come to end Tuesday with a 5-1 loss at sixth-seeded Framingham in the Division 1 Round of 32. The 27th-seeded Hillers finish the season with a record of 9-6-4.
