Superintendent: Middle school staff member arrested on child pornography charges

by | Nov 1, 2024 | Featured: News,

A staff member at Hopkinton Middle School has been arrested on “criminal charges related to child pornography,” according to an email Friday from Superintendent Carol Cavanaugh.

The email, which was sent to district families, indicated that the individual was a “non-instructional staff member.”

“At this time, we have no reason to believe these charges involve any Hopkinton Public Schools students,” Cavanaugh wrote. “However, these allegations are deeply disturbing, and we are fully cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation.

“It is our responsibility to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for all of our students and staff, and we remain committed to this mission,” the email continued. “While we are limited in our ability to share any specifics regarding the ongoing police investigation, the employee in question was immediately placed on leave. The employee is a relatively new hire and passed background checks.

“As stated, at this time, Massachusetts State Police do not believe that any Hopkinton students are involved. Police will conduct a K-9 sweep of the middle school over the weekend for cyber crime devices.”

This is a developing story, and the Independent will have more information as it becomes available.
