Tractor-trailer rollover in Hopkinton leads to I-495 off-ramp closure

by | Oct 4, 2023 | Featured: News, Featured: Police & Fire, News

A tractor-trailer rollover Wednesday morning at the interchange of the Massachusetts Turnpike and Interstate 495 in Hopkinton caused garbage to spill onto the roadway, leading to the temporary closure of the ramp for a few hours.

The crash occurred at 9:15 a.m. on the MassPike eastbound off-ramp to I-495, according to a state police press release. The department initially announced the accident at 10:15 a.m in a post on its X page (formerly known as Twitter). The truck was removed by a heavy-duty tow by 11:30 a.m.

In a state police press release issued Wednesday afternoon, the vehicle was identified as a 2020 Western Star 4900SF cab owned by Service Plus Disposal of Worcester.

This incident caused trash that the vehicle had been carrying to spill onto the road and over the barrier, leading to the temporary closure of the off-ramp for at least a few hours during the clean-up effort.

The driver, a 28-year-old Fitchburg man, was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester after he sustained minor injuries.

The investigation into the crash is being conducted by the State Police-Charlton Barracks, and a summons is expected to be issued to the operator for motor vehicle offenses.
