Planning Board OK’s proposal for commercial building on South Street

by | Jan 4, 2021 | Business, Featured: News, News

The Planning Board unanimously approved a major site plan review for 0 South Street, where REC Hopkinton proposes to construct a commercial building and parking lot. The site, located across from a Dell EMC building at 80 South St., consists of approximately 11.7 acres of undeveloped land located entirely within the Industrial A district.

The proposed development is a one-story building of approximately 32,400 square feet of gross floor area along with a 106-space parking lot and nine loading bays.

In other actions during Monday night’s meeting, the board discussed making some administrative changes to the permit process in an effort to “streamline the process and make it a little bit more efficient without compromising the thoroughness of the reviews that we provide,” according to chair Gary Trendel. Among the changes are to have applicants schedule a pre-submission meeting with town staff, including principal planner John Gelcich, to ensure proposals are in order.

The board also voted to schedule an executive session before an upcoming meeting to discuss the commercial solar project off Frankland Road and the associated lawsuit in which abutters are suing the Planning Board in an attempt to stop the project.
