Main Street hydrant test Wednesday could cause water discoloration

by | Oct 13, 2026 | News

The Water-Sewer Department will perform a required hydrant flow test on Main Street Wednesday, according to a notice from the Water-Sewer Department.

According to the notice, the flow test is scheduled to take place at 48-52 Main Street — the former site of Hopkinton Drug. Water-Sewer Manager Jed Fenneuff stated in the notice that his department anticipated the test would cause discolored water in the test area.

The announcement indicated residents who experience discoloration can resolve the issue by flushing the cold water pipes in their homes, as doing so allows trapped sediments to be released. The Water-Sewer Department recommends residents check their water before use.

The notice also stated that discolored water is safe to drink, although it is not recommended for washing laundry.

For more information, visit the Water-Sewer Department’s website or call 508-497-9765.
