Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a video or two to brighten your morning.
A request from a resident to restrict gun use in town led to concerns from Select Board members that a change might adversely affect hunters, but the board agreed Tuesday to hold a spot for a potential article on the Town Meeting warrant while more information is gathered. This issue is our poll question of the day (see below).
In other Select Board news, the town manager presented the Select Board with two Fiscal Year 2022 budget options, one with a 2.5 percent tax impact on existing property owners, the other with a 1 percent tax impact; a request by Cornell’s Irish Pub to allow for a permanent outdoor seating area for 50 people behind the Hayden Rowe Street restaurant passed unanimously, despite objections from two neighbors; and the board voted against sponsoring a tree-cutting general bylaw, which was part of the Zoning Advisory Committee’s strategy to limit commercial solar.
The Boston Athletic Association announced Tuesday that it has targeted Columbus Day, Oct. 11, for the 2021 Boston Marathon. This is assuming road races are allowed in the state by the fall (right now they are not).
Town meetings tonight include the Sustainable Green Committee (6:30), Board of Appeals (7) and Growth Study Committee (7:45).
