HHS sports roundup: Girls basketball’s 5-game win streak ends; skiing teams take 2nd

The Hopkinton High School girls basketball team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end Thursday night with a 44-35 loss to visiting Westwood. Kiki Fossbender scored 11 points to lead the Hillers, while fellow junior Lauren Cho tallied nine.

Hopkinton took an 11-5 lead after one quarter behind five points from Cho. The lead was 15-5 early in the second quarter, but the visitors closed the period on a 16-4 run to take a 21-19 lead into halftime.

Westwood scored just before the third-quarter buzzer for a 33-29 lead, then pulled away in the final period.

The teams will meet again Friday night in Westwood, and again on Monday in Hopkinton. …

The HHS varsity ski teams also competed Thursday night in a Central Massachusetts Conference Ski League competition at Ski Ward in Shrewsbury, and both finished second to Algonquin.

On the girls side, Cate Barry won the race in 57.75 seconds, followed by Klara Niss in second (1:02.33). Avery Hutchinson took 12th and Gabi Ciri was 16th. Hopkinton finished with 956 points, 18 points behind Algonuin.

For the boys, Jackson Schlussel took first in 53.28 seconds. Jake Lacoche was third with a time of 58.10. Nathias Niss took 10th, Andrew Herlihy was 12th and Nathan Foster finished 16th. Hopkinton had 963 points, just five fewer than Algonquin.
