HHS Sports Roundup: Football ends season with loss to Norwood

by | Apr 18, 2021 | Sports

Cole Salyards ran for four touchdowns, but it was not enough as the Hopkinton High School football team ended its season with a 49-35 loss to visiting Norwood on Sunday afternoon. The Hillers finish with a 2-3 record.

The game originally was to be played Friday night but was pushed back due to the field being in rough shape following Friday’s snowfall.

Salyards scored on a 10-yard run in the first quarter, evening the score at 7. However, Norwood scored two more TDs in the period to take a 21-7 lead.

The Hillers scored early in the second quarter, on an 11-yard run from Tyler Mulvaney, but Norwood’s Bryan Metayer took the ensuing kickoff 86 yards to pay dirt.

Salyards scored on a 1-yard run with 25 seconds left in the half, and, playing defensive back, came up with an interception on the final play of the period to keep it 28-21.

The Mustangs opened the second half with three unanswered touchdowns, two in the third quarter and one early in the fourth, for a 49-21 lead.

Hopkinton scored two late touchdowns, on a Salyards 6-yard run and a 15-yard run. A two-point conversion pass from Robert Litscher to Ethan Champlin capped the scoring.
