Hopkinton Today: Tuesday, May 4

by | May 4, 2021 | Hopkinton Today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a video or two to brighten your morning.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, responding to strong accusations from family and friends of deceased Hopkinton teenager Mikayla Miller, defended her office’s investigation and insisted, “We want to get the right answer for Mikayla.”

No one person can solve all the world’s problems. But every person can make a difference, said Anna Noroian, an eighth-grader at Hopkinton Middle School. “Small ripples can make a big wave,” she said. “Every step we take to be a better community together, I think that’s important.” Noroian will spend the upcoming year making waves as she focuses on community service, as she was selected to be Hopkinton’s Project 351 ambassador.

This week’s edition of Library Corner highlights programs including a viewing and discussion of the film “Far East Deep South” and a presentation about birds, butterflies, bees and other beneficials.

Our latest Business Profile features Crystal Pool & Spa, which was founded by Verne and Nancy Brown more than 50 years ago and today remains family-owned and operated, proudly servicing families in Metrowest. Kimberly DiChiara is company president and the Browns’ granddaughter.

Town meetings tonight include the Board of Assessors (5:30), Elementary School Building Committee (6) and Historical Commission (7). Also, HCAM will host a School Committee candidates debate at 7 p.m.

This daily news update is totally tone-deaf. Mikayla’s death and the circumstances surrounding her death warrant a somber tone. Our town lost another of our babies, and we must not only support the family but unearth the truth. Please show the family and the community respect by checking the tone of your writing in this inappropriately cheerful Hopkinton daily update. People are devastated and grieving and there are many unanswered questions. It is not a happy day in Hopkinton.

I absolutely agree. This is so unnerving. Extremely heartbreaking. Hasn’t been a happy day in Hopkinton since.
