Holliston Superette continues tradition of quality

Holliston Superette owner Chris Leoncini keeps his customers happy with old-school, top-notch service and quality products.

The Holliston Superette has been a fixture on Washington Street in Holliston for almost 60 years, and it’s no accident that the beloved mom and pop small market has been a success from the start. The Superette is known not only for its delectable deli sandwiches, meats and other foods items but also the welcoming atmosphere its customers have come to expect.

It was opened by Arthur and Nellie Guidi in 1960. The couple’s aim was to open a small market that offered its customers unprecedented service as well as the finest deli and butcher shop choices around. Six decades later, not too much has changed.

The Superette’s friendly atmosphere is one of a kind with now-owner Chris Leoncini and his team making customers feel as though they’ve known each other for years.

“It’s my customers that keep me going. So many of them have been coming here for years,” he said. “My goal every day is to keep customers moving and keep them happy.”

Leoncini bought the Superette in 2008 after working in retail for most of his professional life. He says the popularity of the old-school, small market seems to be on the decline, but he knows his customers will keep coming back to the quality choices he continues to offer.

The Holliston Superette’s deli sandwiches are like no other. Made with Boar’s Head meats and a variety of cheeses, they include everything from turkey and Italian clubs to corned beef, BLT’s and chicken, egg and seafood salad sandwiches, among others. Hearty, hot sandwiches including meatball, chicken parmesan and pastrami are offered as well as weekly paninis. Try a specialty sandwich such as the Dill-icious Turkey, Roast Beef Boursin, or the Downtown, which consists of honey baked ham, turkey breast and Swiss cheese with tomato, lettuce and honey mustard. For busy families and individuals, an array of fresh meats — either marinated or not — include steak, chicken or turkey tips, kabobs, burgers or fish, which can easily be thrown on the grill for a delicious dinner. Or even better, prepared foods made on the premises or selected from local specialty shops including lasagna, meatloaf and chicken parmesan are available. Looking for a delicious side? The twice-baked potatoes are fantastic.

For anyone hosting a special occasion such as a graduation party, bridal shower or a Memorial Day, Father’s Day or July 4 celebration, platters are for sale. Leoncini and his crew can create tasty deli, wrap sandwiches, cheese and antipasto platters, among others. Have a special request not on the menu? Ask Leoncini and he’ll do his best to oblige. Some gluten-free options are available. The small market also has a pasta section and sells fresh produce and fruit, breakfast items, coffee, scones and Irish bread.

The Holliston Superette is located at 777 Washington St. and is open seven days a week. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Parking is available on the street as well as the lot behind the store.
