HPD’s Porter earns public management certificate

by | May 25, 2021 | News, Police & Fire

Hopkinton Police Lt. John Porter graduated May 14 from the Massachusetts Municipal Association-Suffolk University Certificate in Local Government Leadership and Management program, the HPD announced.

The graduate-level program links contemporary public management theory with “real world” practice, covering topics such as budgeting and financial management, challenges in human resources management and strategic leadership.

“Throughout his career, Lt. Porter has consistently shown exemplary leadership among his peers,” HPD Chief Joseph Bennett stated. “As a well-respected member of our team, many officers look up to him for guidance and direction. This training will further assist Lt. Porter as he works collaboratively with other departments, boards and committees within our community. I’d like to thank town manager Norman Khumalo and human resource director Maria Casey for offering this valuable training.”

Porter joined the Hopkinton Police Department in 1992. Before being promoted to lieutenant in 2016, he served as a patrolman, school resource officer, detective and sergeant.
