Culminating a busy few days for the Hopkinton Fire Department, firefighters put out a three-alarm blaze at 106 Saddle Hill Road late Wednesday night.

The fire caused a portion of Saddle Hill Road to be closed and traffic to be rerouted around Daniel Shays Road.

Assistance came from Medway, Upton, Milford, Ashland, Westborough, Framingham and Southborough.

Earlier in the day, HFD responded to a brush fire for the seventh time in just over a week.

“It’s exceptionally dry — and so even the smallest spark can ignite brush; and spread fast especially on windy days,” the HFD tweeted.

The department also assisted dousing brush fires in neighboring communities over the past week.

Water and Sewer Department manager Eric Carty cautioned residents that there could be residual discoloration throughout the system due to the use of fire hydrants.

Carty also noted that there has been an almost 50 percent increase in water use since the dramatic rise in temperatures with very little rain, which is unsustainable. He is reminding residents of the water use restrictions, especially as it relates to lawn sprinkler use.

“It is only with full compliance that we will be able to maintain a safe and adequate supply of water for firefighting and daily essential needs,” Carty stated.

An inch or more of rain is expected over the next few days.
