26.2 Foundation awarded grant to upgrade trail off Ash Street

by | Oct 18, 2021 | News

The 26.2 Foundation recently was awarded $7,500 to upgrade the trail that runs from the back of Center School to Elmwood Farm on Ash Street to make it more suitable for regular use by hikers, runners and bikers.

The trail, which is about 2 miles long, often is wet, and the funds will allow for the construction of bridges. Hopkinton’s Trail Coordination and Management Committee (TCMC) will coordinate the project and is seeking volunteers to help.

The Hopkinton-based 26.2 Foundation was founded in 1996 with a mission to promote and support the sport of marathoning as well as health, wellness and economic development initiatives. Its grant application was selected from more than 150 applications to the Athletic Brewing Company’s Two for the Trails Grant Program.

The TCMC had been discussing improvements to the trail for some time, TCMC Chair Peter Lagoy stated, and worked with the 26.2 Foundation to apply.

For more information or to volunteer to help the trail project, email Lagoy at Peter_LaGoy@msn.com.
