HHS Sports Roundup: Volleyball, boys soccer post tourney wins

The Hopkinton High School girls volleyball team opened the postseason with a convincing 3-0 victory over visiting Danvers on Friday night, led by the efforts of senior Kate Powers.

The third-seeded and undefeated Hillers next will host No. 14 Burlington on Tuesday (6 p.m.). …

The HHS boys soccer team advanced to the second round of the Division 2 tournament with a 2-1 victory over visiting Nashoba on Thursday. Sam Vasington headed in the first goal for the Hillers off a pass from Peter DeMichele. Owen Schnur tapped in a Sean Golembiewski pass for the winner in the 65th minute.

Hopkinton (14-4-1), the 14th seed, next plays at third-seeded Holliston on Wednesday (4 p.m.). …

The HHS girls soccer team saw its season come to an end on Saturday with a 2-0 loss at Brookline. …

The Hillers football team hosted Newton North on Friday night and could not hold on to an eight-point halftime lead, ultimately falling 26-14.

Seamus Murphy caught a 43-yard touchdown pass from Robbie Litscher, and Joey Carazza had a 2-yard run for Hopkinton’s other TD. Avery Ravech was 2-for-2 on PATs. Aidan Kelly and Charlie Petruney each had an interception. …

In other HHS athletics news, Nick Grout was named girls ice hockey coach. Grout, who teaches at Dover-Sherborn, previously coached the co-op team for nine years.
