Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo and video of the day.
Former Red Sox pitcher Jim Corsi, a one-time resident of Hopkinton, died of cancer Tuesday morning at his home in Bellingham at the age of 60. Corsi recently shared his story with WBZ-TV’s Steve Burton (also a former Hopkinton resident). In an emotional piece that aired Sunday night, Corsi lamented not getting a colonoscopy earlier in life. He eventually was diagnosed with liver and colon cancer.
The town’s Water and Sewer Department warned residents that water might be discolored throughout town due to hydrants being needed to fight a fire early Wednesday morning on Fruit Street. The fire was at a building owned by J.B. Sawmill & Land Clearing, which is located at 36 Fruit Street, across the street from the town’s wells.
This week’s Police Log includes three arrests along with reports of a deer fatality, a transformer explosion, and a woman destroying mailboxes.
The Hopkinton Garden Club’s Online Speaker Series presents “Gardens of the Scottish Highlands” with Jana Milbacher on Jan. 18. Participants will enjoy an armchair tour of 15 very different gardens in Scotland — from castle and historic estate properties in the Highlands to botanic gardens and intimate private Edens.
Town meetings tonight include the School Committee (7) and Open Space Preservation Commission (7).
