Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo and video of the day.
The School Committee on Thursday held a joint meeting with the Board of Health to discuss the rise in COVID-19 cases because of the omicron variant. “We may not all agree about how we get there,” Board of Health Chair Lisa Whittemore said. “But I think we all agree that we want our communities to stay open and our schools to stay open.”
In other School Committee news, the committee voted unanimously not to support a current application proposed by the Upper Charles Trail Committee to extend a portion of its trail across the Irvine-Todaro property to Hayden Rowe Street.
Hopkinton’s Sean Farrell was named to the U.S. men’s hockey team for the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing next month. The 20-year-old Farrell is in his first year at Harvard University.
The Hopkinton Fire Department is reminding residents that open burning season runs from Jan. 15 through May 1. A permit is required to burn in compliance with Massachusetts law.
Photo of the Day: Frigid weather has created icy conditions all over town, including at Hopkinton State Park, where a hydrangea floret sits atop frozen snow. See more photos here.
