HHS Sports Roundup: Basketball teams sweep Holliston; boys hockey on roll

The Hopkinton High School girls basketball team turned away Holliston, 51-35, on Sunday afternoon in the Mary Korbey Scholarship Fund game. Kiki Fossbender led the Hillers with 15 points, while Lexy Trendel netted 14 and Brooke Dougherty contributed 12.

On Friday, the Hillers held off Norton, 60-53. …

Boys basketball won at Holliston on Sunday, 57-40, as 11 Hillers scored at least one point.

On Friday, Nate Kasper scored 15 points — including 7-of-7 free throws down the stretch — to key a 54-47 victory at Norton. Evan Mirazimi chipped in with 12 points. …

The boys hockey team continued its hot streak Saturday, winning its fourth straight with a 5-2 victory over Norton. Joe Scardino had two goals, while Cal Greenwood, Joey Carrazza and Charlie Purpura each lit the lamp one time.

Last Wednesday, the Hillers earned a 2-1 overtime victory over Bellingham, with Ryan Teitel scoring the game-winner just 22 seconds into the extra frame. Scardino had the other HHS goal. …

Wrestling went 3-1 in a multi-team meet at Milford on Saturday. The Hillers beat Algonquin 49-18, rallied to top Monty Tech 39-36, routed Franklin Tech 46-4 and lost to Milford 49-25. Jari Zaidi, Devin Canty and Justin Sokol recorded pins to spark the 15-point comeback vs. Monty Tech.

Last Wednesday, the Hillers bested Norwood, 50-30, behind pins from Zaidi, Sokol, John Carlson, Will Liptak, Stephen Moody, Jack Hoyt and Cyrus Hanson. …

Boys swimming topped Medfield on Saturday, 90-61. Tyler Fallon qualified for sectionals with his time in the 50 freestyle, while the 400 free relay of Kevin Gu, Davis Peishoff, Shawn Haley and Fallon set a team-best mark by six seconds. …

Girls swimming and diving fell to Medfield on Saturday, 95-82. Sofia Luce won the 100 butterfly, posting her season-best time, while the 200 free relay of Olivia Scalora, Natalie Bouffard, Katie Balster and Luce also recorded a season-best time. …

In Thursday’s alpine ski meet at Ski Ward, the HHS girls finished in second place, led by Klara Niss (third overall), Lila Mato (10th) and Avery Hutchinson (17th).

The boys skied to a nine-place finish, led by Jake Lacoche (20th). …

Allison Valencia was named HHS’ new varsity field hockey coach. Valencia played at Foxborough High School and Worcester State University as well as internationally in Scotland. She has been coaching club field hockey since 2011 and spent the last five years as the junior varsity coach at Foxborough High.
