Having bravely faced health challenges over the last several years, Poonam Chadha of Hopkinton passed away peacefully on Feb. 9. In her last days, she was surrounded by her loved ones who will remember her strength, perseverance and incredible capacity to love.
The fourth of five children, Poonam was born in Lucknow, India, to Kailash and Baij Nath Chadha. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 18 with her parents and siblings, Nutan, Pravesh, Pradeep and Sanjiv. She worked long and hard hours as a visiting nurse for many years, bringing joy, comfort and care to her patients.
A loving mother to two children, Eric and Alicia, Poonam also was a grandmother to Arjun and Kareena. She was a beloved auntie to many nieces and nephews, treasured partner to Thomas, and dear family member to a large extended family. She was a cherished friend to many, including her longtime caregiver, Bella.
There is no person in the world like Poonam. While describing her is difficult, the adjective that most readily comes to mind is loving. She was outgoing and warm, and she could easily hold a conversation with anyone. She was chatty, funny and friendly. She dabbled in many hobbies such as playing the piano and painting, and she had a particular love of planting flowers.
A funeral service is scheduled from 1:15-2:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11, at the Chesmore Funeral Home in Hopkinton. The service will be livestreamed starting at 1:30 for those who cannot attend in person. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association.
