Giovanna Moynihan

Giovanna “Jenny” (Mazzola) Moynihan, 90, of Leominster died peacefully on Feb. 11 at her home. She was the wife of the late Richard Moynihan and leaves a son, John, and his wife, Judy, of Hopkinton and a daughter, Mary, of Worcester. Jenny is survived by her sister, Lucia “Lucy” Hutchinson of Leominster, and was predeceased by her brother, Gerardo (Gerry) Mazzola. She also leaves several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jenny was born Sept. 2, 1931, the daughter of Loretto and Antonia Mazzola (Pellegrini), and lived in Leominster her entire life. She graduated from St. Bernard’s High School, received her B.A. from Salem State University and master’s in education from Fitchburg State University. While at Salem State, Jenny was active in several campus organizations and a member of the school’s women’s tennis team.

Jenny retired from the Leominster School System after teaching business education at the high school for 25 years. She also served as the school’s senior class yearbook advisor. During retirement, she and Richard enjoyed their home in Yarmouth Port and travelled throughout Italy. Jenny and her family were lifelong parishioners of St. Ann’s, where she taught CCD for the parish.

Jenny will be remembered for her gracious, thoughtful and reserved presence. She was a loving wife, a caring and devoted mother, a loyal friend and a mentor to her students. John and Mary are forever grateful to the caregivers who assisted their mother in her final years.

A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 11 a.m. at St. Anna’s Church, 194 Lancaster Street, Leominster. There are no calling hours. Services are under the care of Richardson Funeral Home, Leominster.
