HHS Sports Roundup: Wrestling sends 10 to states; boys hoops starts another winning streak

The Hopkinton High School boys wrestling team hosted the sectional meet on Saturday. The Hillers finished fourth as a team while qualifying 10 wrestlers for the state meet: Adam Distasio (fourth place at 106 pounds), Stephen Moody (fourth at 113), James Hoyt (fifth at 120), John Carlson (fourth at 126), Will Liptak (fourth at 132), Josh Huang (second at 138), Sebastian Losada (second at 145), James Muzzy (fourth at 170), Cyrus Hanson (fourth at 182) and Justin Sokol (third at 220). …

In the girls swimming and diving South sectional meet on Thursday, Tess Weatherhead finished third in the diving competition while her sister, Eve, took seventh.

At the boys swimming and diving sectional meet over the weekend, Davis Peishoff swam a personal-best time in qualifying for the state meet in the 100 backstroke. The 400 freestyle relay team of Tyler Fallon, Lucas Coffman, Peishoff and Kevin Gu finished 10th. …

The HHS boys basketball team is back to its winning ways, routing Holliston, 67-29, last Tuesday behind 23 points from Nate Kasper, and defeating Ashland, 59-44, on Friday. The Hillers have won nine of their last 10 heading into Tuesday’s home game against Westwood. …

Girls basketball dropped a 64-40 decision to Norwood on Sunday despite 14 points from Lauren Cho. Last week, the Hillers lost to Westborough, 49-40, before bouncing back and beating Ashland, 57-52, on Senior Night. Kiki Fossbender score 29 in the win, while Cho netted 13 and Brooke Dougherty tallied 10. …

Boys hockey dropped a tough 5-4 decision to Ashland on Saturday, squandering a 4-0 third-period lead. Ryan Teitel, Joe Scardino, Joey Carrazza and Charlie Purpura scored the HHS goals. Three days earlier, the Hillers routed Holliston, 7-0, with seven players netting a goal apiece: Wyatt Iantosca, Izak Peterson, Declan Durocher, Vasili Zolotarev, Scardino, Teitel and Declan Durocher. …

The girls hockey co-op team fell to Leominster on Monday, 5-1. The game was tied at 1 entering the third period. Morgan Fraser had the lone Hopkinton goal. On Saturday, the girls lost to Westwood, 8-3. …
