HHS Sports Roundup: Powers earns All-America honors at New Balance Nationals

by | Mar 13, 2022 | Sports

Hopkinton High School senior Kate Powers continued her record-setting indoor track and field season over the weekend by earning All-America honors at the prestigious New Balance Nationals at the Armory in New York City.

Powers finished fifth in the weight throw, recording a personal-best 51 feet, 3.5 inches on her final throw.

She became the first Hopkinton All-American since Jess Scott in 2013.

Powers has one more meet, the USA Track and Field (USATF) Youth Championship at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island, New York. She previously won the weight throw at the USATF New England Youth Championship.

Also at the New Balance Nationals, the HHS boys shuttle hurdles relay of Andrew Bialobrzeski, Will Bialobrzeski, Sean Golembiewski and Declan Mick finished second, although they later were disqualified following a video review.

Golembiewski, still on the mend from a hamstring injury, competed in the open hurdles event as well.

Meanwhile, at the National Scholastic Athletic Foundation Nike Nationals on Staten Island, the HHS shuttle hurdles relay team of Kiley Locke, Sowmya Karthikeyan, Emma DeMichele and Ellie Driscoll competed, as did Keira O’Connor in the high jump.
