HBA ends season with title, skills competition

Members of one of the Hopkinton Basketball Association Grade 5 boys teams celebrate after winning the Division 4 championship on March 13.

The Hopkinton Basketball Association (HBA) wrapped up its season this month with the Metrowest League playoffs. A number of Hopkinton teams advanced far in the playoffs, and one of the Grade 5 boys teams captured the Division 4 championship with a 48-44 victory over Rochester in the final Sunday morning at the Dana Barros Basketball Club in Stoughton.

Team members included Arjun Mehta, Jack Monopoli, Ben Brooks, Carson Polsinello, Chase Corregan, Ben Yang, Kevin Behrens, Jaden Jn Baptiste, Callen Fitzgibbon and Trevor Hodne. The team was coached by Scott Hodne, Rick Polsinello and Ted Behrens. …

The HBA held its season-ending skills competition on Sunday afternoon at Hopkinton High School.

Winners in the free throw contest were Nina Staffieri (Grade 4/5 girls), Gabby Simulis (Grade 6 girls), Alyssa Budden and Teagan Resteghini (tie, Grade 7/8 girls), Michael Tighe (Grade 4/5 boys), Colin Dow (Grade 6 boys) and Lucas Hodne (Grade 7/8 boys).

Winners in the 3-point shootout included Ireland Resteghini (Grade 4/5 girls), Jane Hopkins (Grade 6 girls), Alyssa Budden (Grade 7/8 girls), Caleb Kim (Grade 4/5 boys), Ryan Dorfman (Grade 6 boys) and Josh Kim (Grade 7/8 boys).

Winners in the cone drill were Murphy Chatten (Grade 4/5 girls), Riley Colleran (Grade 6 girls), Teagan Resteghini (Grade 7/8 girls), Caleb Kim (Grade 4/5 boys), Connor Nguyen (Grade 6 boys) and Connor Sullivan (Grade 7/8 boys).

Winners in the 30-second shootout were Enza Spinelli (Grade 4/5 girls), Catherine Chow (Grade 6 girls), Teagan Resteghini (Grade 7/8 girls), Jackson Balster (Grade 4/5 boys), Alex Fine (Grade 6 boys) and Rocco Spinelli (Grade 7/8 boys).
