Hopkinton Today: Thursday, July 21

by | Jul 21, 2022 | Featured: Features, Hopkinton Today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo and video of the day.

The story of the Michael Lisnow Respite Center is remarkable enough in that it demonstrates a mother’s unwavering love and support for her son, and the unyielding commitment of two best friends to make a difference in the lives of others. But it is so much more than that.

Leading off this week’s Independent Thoughts are some opinions and observations about the Main Street Corridor Project.

With the town in the midst of a heat wave, two prime swimming locations were taken offline Wednesday afternoon. The main and upper beaches at Hopkinton State Park were deemed unfit for swimming by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation due to high bacteria counts (enterococci).

The town announced Wednesday that emergency pavement marking has been scheduled from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday to stripe the new pavement on Main Street between Wood Street and the Fire Station.

This week’s Police Log includes reports of an individual finding a large sum of money, a loose bull on Ash Street, and a fertilizing machine falling off a truck onto East Main Street.

Town meetings tonight include the School Committee (7) and Hopkinton Democratic Town Committee (7).

Tales from a Townie: Dick Byers

I hate doing this — writing these memorials — but I guess it goes with the territory when you are in your mid-80s. However, I feel it is an honor and privilege to be able to do so for my lifelong friends. I met Dick Byers 69 years ago, the day we entered first...
