The Hopkinton High School boys soccer team’s dream season will continue, as the Hillers knocked off Wayland on penalty kicks after playing to a 2-2 tie in the Division 2 state quarterfinals Sunday afternoon in Hopkinton.

The second-seeded Hillers (18-1-2) will play Bedford in the state semifinals. UPDATE: The semifinal game is set for Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Doyle Field in Leominster.

In the penalty kick shootout, Hopkinton shot first, with Peter DiMichele finding paydirt. After a Wayland score, Drew Bialobrzeski out the Hillers back ahead. On Wayland’s second attempt, HHS goalie Max Nye dove to his left and just got enough of his left mitt on a low, hard shot, deflecting the ball out and around the post.

Will Bialobrzeski then drilled a shot into the upper right corner for a 3-1 advantage. After a Wayland score, Dylan Michaud drove a shot into the upper left corner. Wayland scored on its fourth try, setting up Sean Golembiewski for the decisive tally. The senior forward approached the ball with a series of staggers and fakes, then calmly smacked the ball into the upper right corner. Golembiewski and Nye embraced while the rest of the team raced over from midfield to join in the celebration.

DiMchele and Jack Green had the first-half goals for the Hillers, both times answering Wayland scores.

The Hillers’ previous two tournament games also took extra time. Michaud scored in the second overtime period to defeat Sharon on Wednesday. Golembiewski tipped one home in OT to beat Fitchburg on Nov. 6. …

Girls soccer saw its season come to an end Thursday with a 2-0 loss to Bishop Feehan in Attleboro. The Hillers had opened the postseason with a 1-0 victory over host Lexington. …

Field hockey also ended its season Thursday, dropping a 3-0 decision to host Longmeadow. …

Volleyball dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision to Canton on Nov. 4 in its lone tourney match, losing the final game 23-21. …

The football team rebounded from close losses to Holliston (21-19) and Natick (28-23) with a 44-20 victory over visiting Stoughton on Thursday night. The Hillers will take a 7-3 record into their Thanksgiving Day matchup against visiting Ashland.
