Hopkinton Today: Thursday, Jan. 12

by | Jan 12, 2023 | Featured: Features, Hopkinton Today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo and video of the day.

A number of factors steered Hopkinton High School senior Sean Golembiewski to the University of Pennsylvania, including a top-notch education, a beautiful urban campus and a strong track and field program.

The Hopkinton High School boys ice hockey team earned a spot in the state tournament last season with a .500 record, but having most of his roster back this winter has coach Scott Hayes aiming to eclipse last year’s success.

This week’s Hillers Thrillers Athlete Spotlight shines on Josie Hopkins, a sophomore who has stood out in the early part of the season for the Hopkinton High School girls indoor track and field team.

Because only four of the seven commissioners on the Conservation Commission were able to attend Tuesday night’s virtual meeting, the applicants for the Massachusetts Laborers Training property on 37 East Street and The Trails development requested continuances of their hearings, saying that the fate of their longstanding cases should be decided by the full commission.

The latest Police Log includes two arrests along with reports of vandalism at the Center School playground, an online puppy scam and a resident using a firearm in his backyard.

Town meetings tonight include the Parks & Recreation Commission (5:30) and School Committee (7).

Photo of the Day: This week’s winner of the Hopkinton Independent/Bill’s Pizza photo contest is Jim Brennan for this photo of his 5-year-old granddaughter, Dottie Snee, standing on Pout Rock during a sunset walk at Lake Whitehall.
