Joanne DiFiore

by | Dec 11, 2019 | Obituaries

Joanne F. (Tamburo) DiFiore passed away on Nov. 20 at Harbor Point in Centerville. Joanne was born in Boston on Nov. 28, 1936, one of four children of the late Oreste and Mary Tamburo. Raised in Brighton, Joanne graduated with high honors from Brighton High School. After graduating she worked at New England Telephone Company, where she met her husband, Herb. He was just back from his enlistment in the military. They married in January 1957, lived in Revere briefly, and then moved to Brighton where they raised their daughters.

Joanne loved to entertain, travel and go out with her many friends who were as close to her as family. After Joanne retired from her cherished job at the Chestnut Hill School in 1999, she and Herb moved to the Cape full time and visited Marco Island during the winter. She enjoyed reading, taking long walks, doing puzzles and spending endless hours at the beach. Joanne had a passion for gardening, and over the years she created her dream spot in South Dennis. Joanne’s love of flowers came from her father, who would bring her cut flowers from his garden, and when her South Dennis summer home was built in 1976 he brought hostas and gladiolas from his gardens to plant around her new home. But most of all Joanne was a devout Catholic, a parishioner of St. Anthony’s Parish in Allston and then St. Pius X Parish in Yarmouth. Joanne found solace and peace in her faith, she prayed for everyone, and a small prayer book, prayer cards or rosaries were always nearby.

Joanne is lovingly survived by her husband, Herbert T. DiFiore, to whom she was devotedly married for almost 63 years. She was the loving mother of Judy Gallauresi and husband, Bill, of Swanzey, New Hampshire, and Cynthia Hickey and husband, Michael, of Melrose, and the beloved grandmother of Michael James and Bethany. She was the caring sister of John Tamburo of Hopkinton and the late Theresa LaMattina and Elizabeth DiSanzo. She also is survived by three sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was held Nov. 26 at Corpus Christi Church in Sandwich. Services were under the care of the Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home in Sandwich. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Benchmark Associate Holiday Fund, Harbor Point, 22 Richardson Road, Centerville MA 02632.
