Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo of the day.

Sunday morning’s two-alarm fire that caused the death of a man and a dog and sent a woman to the hospital “does not appear suspicious,” according to a statement from the State Fire Marshal’s Office. While officials have not released the victim’s name, the home was owned by Don MacNeill and his wife, Judith, and acquaintances confirmed that MacNeill perished in the blaze.

Inspired by his girlfriend and her battle with diabetes, Hopkinton High School alumnus Ian Brohm is running the Boston Marathon for Joslin Diabetes Center.

Mark Howard is achieving his goal a bit later than anticipated, but he’s about to check running the Boston Marathon off his bucket list. The Hopkinton resident is running to support Hopkinton Youth Lacrosse.

“Music has always been a huge part of my family,” said Kerry Vogel, who is running her first Boston Marathon in 2023 to raise money for the Hopkinton Music Association.

With Cassandra Leal coming from a military family, it’s appropriate that she is running the Boston Marathon for the first time as a fundraiser for the Hopkinton Veterans Celebration Committee.

The Hopkinton Garden Club’s Speaker Series presents “Avian Ecology” on Tuesday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts as well as on Zoom.

The Friends of Whitehall spring lake and trail cleanup will be held Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m.-noon. Participants will gather at the boat landing parking lot at Whitehall State Park on Wood Street (Route 135) and be assigned areas of trails and shoreline around the lake to clean up debris and refuse.

Town meetings tonight include the Select Board (6), Elementary School Building Committee (6), Commissioners of Trust Funds (6), Design Review Board (6:30), Conservation Commission (7) and Veterans Celebration Committee (7).
