Veterans discuss May military history at monthly breakfast

by | May 8, 2023 | Featured

Veterans Breakfast

A full house of local veterans enjoyed the monthly breakfast at the Hopkinton Senior Center on May 5. A sampling of attendees in the accompanying photo demonstrates through smiling faces the reveling in military events that were evoked from significant military action on May 5 during the early 20th century. Pictured are (from left), Robert Hole (Navy), showing an action photo of the Battle of Midway (June 4-7, 1942), an important turning point in World War II; Stephen Bartlett (Marines), Mike Arakelian (Air Force), showing a photo of (possibly) the first Massachusetts Congressional Medal of Honor award earned by Peter Grace in 1885; a guest (Navy) with a photo of the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice), which was approved by Congress in 1950 for the “government of the armed forces of the U.S.”; Steve Whynot (Navy), Art Brooks (Navy); and Bob Letendre (Army) with a rendering representing Taps Across America, a program fully supported by Hopkinton-based Old Guard New England.

Many military events were discussed during the breakfast. The Hopkinton veteran on “guard duty,” overlooking the shoulders of the breakfast attendees, is WW II Army Sgt. Paul Jackson Michael McBride.

The next Veterans Breakfast is scheduled for June 2 at the Senior Center.
