Hopkinton Today: Monday, May 15

by | May 15, 2023 | Featured: Features, Hopkinton Today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo of the day.

The Annual Town Election is today from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. at Hopkinton Middle School’s Brown Gym. We have information on the candidates as well as the list of ballot questions.

Town Meeting recently approved an article asking to borrow $800,000 for a feasibility study for the proposed expansion of Hopkins School. That debt exclusion request will appear as a ballot question at today’s Annual Town Election today. On Thursday, the School Committee discussed the reasons prompting this project request.

The Open Space Preservation Commission at its meeting Thursday night voted 3-0 to create an ad hoc committee to discuss the potential purchase by the town of a 60-plus acre wooded property in the Springwood neighborhood that was slated to be clear cut for possible development.

As part of the Main Street Corridor Project this week, constructions crews will continue the full-depth excavation on the sidewalks and roadway on the east side of the project along with placement of gravel and dense graded crushed stone. The eastbound detour from Grove Street to Maple Street to Hayden Rowe will be used from Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m.-5 p.m., and additional detours will be used as needed.

Hopkinton High School students had impressive success at last month’s Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference competition in Anaheim, California, with one team and an individual earning first-place honors.

Leading off the Schools Notebook, the Hopkinton High School Pops Concert will be held Sunday, May 21, at 3 p.m. at the HHS Athletic Center.

The event will include performances from Noteworthy, the HHS Chorus, Jazz Lab, Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra and Concert Band.

Town meetings tonight include the Personnel Committee (6) and Board of Library Trustees (7).
