Hopkinton Today: Thursday, Oct. 12

by | Oct 12, 2023 | Featured: Features, Hopkinton Today

Good morning, Hopkinton! Welcome to the daily update we call Hopkinton Today — a quick recap of yesterday’s news, highlights of what’s on tap, and a photo of the day.

The Select Board during its meeting Tuesday night approved by 4-0 vote a budget message that stressed frugality to town departments when making their fiscal year 2025 budget requests. The town is bracing for a challenging budget season, with a current projected shortfall of at least $1.7 million. The board also discussed the police hiring issue.

As the town works to resolve several instances of water discoloration over the past two weeks, the town’s interim fire chief explained that one cause was from a power outage Thursday morning in the neighborhood near the Eversource LNG facility.

The Conservation Commission at its meeting Tuesday night focused on two longstanding cases. They included a fee waiver request from a controversial solar array development and fines assessed against a Leonard Street developer for violations that prompted him to discuss a lawsuit against the town.

This week’s Police Log includes reports of an individual spotted on a security camera walking on a resident’s property, tires being illegally dumped, and suspicious vehicles in a resident’s driveway.

Town meetings tonight include the Zoning Advisory Committee (7).
